Mocs Host Austin Peay; Snell Named TSWA Player Of The Week

The Chattanooga softball team plays host to instate foe Austin Peay Wednesday evening at Frost Stadium. The game is set to start at 5:00 p.m.

The Mocs are on an eight-game winning streak after sweeping both Samford on the road and ETSU at home in Southern Conference play along with a pair of non-conference wins. Chattanooga is hitting a SoCon-leading .319 and is tied with UNCG for the league lead with six wins in conference play. Taylor Long has a conference-best 11 wins and 104 strikeouts. Kaili Snell leads the Mocs with a .392 batting average and Kaili Phillips leads Chattanooga with eight home runs. She hit two last week against ETSU in back-to-back at bats in back-to-back innings.

Austin Peay is led offensively by junior first baseman Kylie Campbell, who enters today's game batting .422, with five doubles, four triples and a home run, while scoring a team best 23 runs and driving in 20.

Campbell is followed by freshman centerfielder Brie Howard, who is batting at a .367 clip, with three doubles, a triple and a team-high six home runs. She also leads the team with 27 RBIs and has scored 19 runs. In the circle, Jordan Benefiel (9-8, 2.31 ERA, 102 K's) leads the Govs pitching staff, while Samantha Miener (5-7, 3.41 ERA, 30 K's), Ashley Martin (2-1, 2.70 ERA, 42 K's) and Payton Harris (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 K) have also picked up wins this season for Austin Peay.

 Chattanooga leads the series 9-3. APSU has won three of the last four and both of the last two including last year in Clarksville.

 

Chattanooga senior Kailey Snell was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week for all games played March 25-31.

Snell hit .900 (9-for-10) last week in the Mocs three-game sweep of East Tennessee State. She drove in three runs, scored six and had a double and four stolen bases.

In the first game Friday, she went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and scored twice. In the second game, Snell was 3-for-3 with an RBI, scored three runs and tallied two stolen bases. On Sunday, she was again perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base.

Snell was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The Mocs step out of SoCon play on Wednesday to host Austin Peay. The game starts at 5:00 p.m. and gates open one hour prior to first pitch. Tickets are on sale online at GoMocs.com and the Frost Stadium ticket booth on game days.
