Mocs Volleyball Sign Freshman From Atlanta

  • Friday, July 26, 2024
The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team has added another new signee to its 2024 squad, with head coach Julie Torbett Thomas announcing the signing of high school standout Gracie Rose of Greater Atlanta Christian School on Friday.

Rose comes into her first year of collegiate volleyball after a dominant high school career at Greater Atlanta Christian, having helped lead the Trojans to three consecutive Georgia 5A State title game appearances including wins in 2022 and 2021. In total, Rose wrapped up her high school career with an impressive 114-42 record over her four years of playing on the varsity squad.

“We are so excited to add Gracie Rose to our roster,” Coach Torbett Thomas said.
“She is a proven winner with an impressive volleyball resume. We will look for her to add depth on the outside as well as share her high volleyball IQ with her large incoming freshman class.”

The prep standout raked in countless honors over her high school career, none more impressive than taking home AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and Georgia 5A State Player of the Year honors in her senior season. This, compounded with numerous All-State, All-County and All-Area accolades, helped make Rose into one of the premier high school prospects coming out of the state of Georgia for the Class of 2024.

On top of it all, Rose capped off her tenure at Greater Atlanta Christian having broken multiple career records that include most sets played (410), most service aces (323) and most kills (1,646). Additionally, Rose also holds school records for the most kills in a single season (573) and most kills in a single match (41), with her 573 kills as a senior ranking as the third-most in the entire state of Georgia.

Born June 14, 2006, Gracie is the daughter of Mauri Goens (mother) and Jalen Rose (father). Additionally, Rose has two older siblings: Dee Goens (brother) and Mariah Rose (sister). Her father Jalen played college basketball at Michigan from 1991-94 before going on to play 13 seasons in the NBA, while her brother Dee played college basketball at Holy Cross from 2009-13. Rose currently plans on studying Business in Sports Management during her time at UTC.
