Steve C. McAfee, 82, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed peacefully from this life to his heavenly home on March 22, 2024. He was born in 1942, in Chattanooga.

Steve was a devoted husband of over 60 years to his wife, Lynda. He was a loving father to John (Carrie) and Jeff (Shawna) and Poppop to grandchildren, Adam (Priscilla), Maegan (Max), Isaiah, adopted granddaughters Carolina and Madison, and great-grandchildren Ansley, Rosalee, and Sparrow. He also leaves behind his brother, Richard, nieces, nephews, and his fur baby, Lindy Lou. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marjorie, and sisters Carolyn "Rosebud" DeBerry and Shirley Williams.

He was a carman with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 39 years, retiring in 2002. Steve attended City High School. Before attending Providence Baptist Church, Steve was a deacon at Philadelphia Baptist Church where he taught the teen boys' Sunday School class and served as a youth leader with his wife.

Steve was devoted to his wife of over 60 years and people considered them to be joined at the hip. When you saw one of them, you would also see the other. He would do anything for his family and often did extra work so that the family could take vacations and have other extras. He was a hard-working man who sometimes only got four hours of sleep before going to the railroad for his nightly shift. He was a prankster and enjoyed playing jokes on co-workers and his wife. He could always be counted on to bring laughter to others. Steve loved to tinker. He was the Mr. Fix-It of the family and would always come when his family called for help with anything.

Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Ooltewah, TN, with Dr. Jerald Daffe and Rev. John Jones officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Steve's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Arrangements are by the Cremation Center of Chattanooga, 1345 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
