Martha Jeannetta Coleman-Foster passed at NHC-Rossville on Monday March 25, 2024.

“Jeanette” as she was affectionately called, was born on Dec. 20, 1948, to the late Fred Coleman and Ruby Gresham Coleman in Chattanooga. Jeanette was the only child of this union.

Jeanette confessed Christ at an early age and served as a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Chickamauga for many years. Jeanette joined Orchard Knob Baptist Church after marrying Willie Foster. She remained a faithful member of Orchard Knob until her passing.

Jeanette received her primary education at St. Francis Catholic School, Chattanooga. She graduated from Riverside High School, Chattanooga. Jeanette also attended Dalton State College, Dalton, where she was majoring in early childhood education. Jeanette relocated to Detroit, for a brief period with the late Betty King-Eden and late Frank Lee King to help a relative operate a childcare facility. Jeanette returned to the Chickamauga/Fort Oglethorpe area where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Jeanette enjoyed traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She often hosted Sunday dinner for family and friends, and faithfully coordinated the annual Thanksgiving dinner at her son’s place in Decatur, Ga.

She enjoyed Black Friday shopping with family and friends and enjoyed watching the Bachelor with her friends. She was very active in her church either by singing in the choir or participating in various church ministries.

Jeanette casted her love and care for others broadly resulting in endearing relationships with the following bonus children; Darrell Smith, Joseph (Angela) King both of Chattanooga, Angela Wyckoff (Tracy) Moten of Newnan, Ga., Brenda (CJ) Johnson of Conley, Ga., James Dupree of Chickamauga, Micah Smith of Birmingham, and Mark Evans of Decatur.

Jeanette had many friends, acquaintances but had a very close friendship with Matilda Warthen, Iris Noblitt both of Chickamauga, and Laura Hemphill of Chattanooga. Jeanette and Calvin shared a special bond with the King Family. This bond fostered many memories of holiday trips to Demopolis AL as well as joyful times and celebrations with the late Frank Lee King, the late Betty M. King-Eden, Tina King, Donald Atwood of Brooklyn, N.Y., Rev. Edward L. (Virginia) King Sr., Anthony King of Demopolis, Al., Albert (Sherry) King, and Edward King Jr. both of Tuscaloosa.

Jeanette also held endearing friendships with various members of the Foster Family of Chickamauga Ga as a result of her marriage to Willie James Foster.

Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son, Fred Calvin Coleman of Decatur; cousins Ronald (Cynthia) Coleman, Cynthia Coleman Hunter, Sharon Coleman, Ellis Coleman, Darnita Coleman, LaQuesha Woods, Angie Allen, Nicole Coleman, Joyce Coleman, Anita Chapman, Andrew Teague, Carl Nelson all of Chattanooga, Angela Coleman Detroit, Gerald Nelson of Hanahan, S.
