Eunice McElvy Jernigan, 95, who loved to be called “Granny” by her grandchildren, departed her loving family on April 3, 2024.

She was born in Pelham, Ga., on Dec. 1, 1928, a daughter of the late Rosser and Bertha Maxwell McElvy. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Saxon Jernigan, Jr., brother Inman McElvy, and sisters Marcile Johnson and Virginia Ferrell.

Eunice is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles/Robbin Jernigan of Nicholson, Ga., Bob/Karen Jernigan of Flowery Branch, Ga., and daughter and son-in-law, Kathy/Barry Robbins of Dalton.

Eunice is the proud grandmother of Sonya/Steve Jennings of Johns Creek, Ga.; Skyler/Jeremy Stidams of Cartersville, Ga.; Matt/Laura Jernigan of Clermont, Ga.; Stephanie/Michael Varno of Dunwoody, Ga.; Sarah Jernigan of Flowery Branch, Ga.; Michelle/Jim Lightcapp of Cartersville, Ga.; Jennifer Barnett of Hartwell, Ga.; Scarlet Robbins/Aaron Chastain of Jacksonville Beach, Fl.; Christopher /Lindsey Robbins of Buchanan, Mi.; Brandon/Kaycee Robbins of Atlanta; and Ryan Robbins/Julia Rosenbluth of Alexandria, Va., and her beloved 19 great-grandchildren.

Eunice graduated from Pelham High School at the age of 16 and attended Piedmont Nursing School in Atlanta. She later attended Americus Business College in Americus, Ga. receiving her associate's degree. She worked as an executive secretary for Florida First National Bank and later retired from Kearney & Co. in Atlanta.

She loved playing the piano and going on family vacations to the Great Smokey Mountains. She had a special love for being a part of her women’s Bible study groups wherever she and her family resided. She has been a long time member of Rock Bridge Community Church in Dalton.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in Stage 123 at Rock Bridge Community Church. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Stage 123.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all her special caregivers at the Lantern at Morning Pointe in Chattanooga, where she spent her last few years.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being sent to Rock Bridge Community Church of Dalton, GA or the Alzheimer’s Association, 922 E. Morris St., Dalton, GA 30721.
