Joy Evelyne Meyer Gage, 64, of Lumberton, N.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, after complications from a surgery in August 2005.
Joy was born in Chattanooga on June 24, 1941, daughter of the late John H. Meyer III and Dortha H. Meyer Carlson. She attended the University of Chattanooga, graduating in three years with honors.
Chattanooga was home to Joy for many years, where she taught Adult Basic Education and Braille. Her last teaching position was in Lumberton at Robeson Community College.
Joy enjoyed most of all being a dedicated and devoted wife and loving mother. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Raymond Gage of the home; twin daughters, Diana (Richard) Shaw and Donna Gage; two grandchildren, Eric Raymond Shaw and Linda Joy Shaw; siblings, Dortha Coakley, John Meyer and Rebecca Robertson. She will forever be remembered for her faith in God and the love she gave her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luthern School Library, 800 Belvoir Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37412.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at First Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
