Carl Simmons
Carl L. Simmons, Sr., 76, died on May 2, 2008. He died at home, with his family by his side.
He had resided in Chattanooga for two years with his loving daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and John Deacon.
Carl was a member of Second Baptist Church and loved gospel music and hearing a good sermon. He was retired from Simmons Produce on the Forrest Avenue Market and later Simmons Trustworthy Hardware in Powell.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 53 years, Hattie Maddox Simmons; his parents, Virgil and Geneva Simmons, of New Tazewell, Tn.; his brothers, William Simmons of Knoxville and C.V. Simmons of New Tazewell; his sisters, Morine Keck and Marjorie Brown of New Tazewell.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Deacon and husband, John; son Carl L. Simmons, Jr. and wife Nancy, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lee Ann Jenkins of Wilmington, N.C., and Jonathan Simmons of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Grace and Haddon Jenkins. He is also survived by his brothers, Rev. Robert Simmons and David Simmons; sisters, Delores Sweeney, Alice Johnson, Virginia Wyatt and Alma Harmon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel on Sunday, from 5-7 p.m.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m., with son, Carl Simmons, Jr., and brother, Robert Simmons officiating.
The family will meet 10:15 a.m. on Monday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel to go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for the 11 a.m. graveside services. His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
