Charles Elwynne Atnip, 82 of Soperton, Georgia, died on Saturday, July 12, 2008.
Mr. Atnip was born in Bridgeport, Al., and lived in Soperton for the past five years.
He was a son of the late Charlie C. and Canna Lee Wynne Atnip. He was a 1951 graduate of Freed-Hardeman College, Henderson, Tn., and was a gospel preacher for the Church of Christ. Throughout his lifetime he served churches in Tennessee, Vermont, Colorado, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
In addition, he had worked in the carpet and printing industries. Most of his printing was devoted to gospel literature which he wrote and distributed freely.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Jeannette Wiesener Atnip; children and spouses, David and Gladys Atnip and Jeannie and Keith Wolfe, all of Soperton, Ga.; Gretchen and Gene Brzozowski of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Stephen and Gay Atnip of Middleburg, Fl., Paul and Nancy Atnip of Cumming, Ga., Timothy Atnip of Springfield, Mo., George and Melissa Atnip of Dearing, Ga., Martha and Larry Stewart of Moultrie, Ga., Robert and Anna Atnip of Thomasville, Ga.; three brothers, Bob Atnip of Greenfield, Tn., Bill Atnip of Nashville, Tn., Jim Atnip of Cookeville, Tn.; a sister, Mary Taylor of Cartersville, Ga.; 27 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Kimball Church of Christ at 2 p.m. CDT on Friday. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tn.
The family will gather with friends for visitation at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. CDT.
