The UTC women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to Eastern Kentucky at the North River Soccer Complex in non-conference play Sunday afternoon.
After nearly 80 scoreless minutes, EKU’s Lauren Imsande took a pass from Jessica Reed and lofted the ball over the head of Chattanooga keeper Allie Preston for the game-winning goal. The Colonels (1-0-1) added an insurance goal seven minutes later for their first win of the season.
On a throw in Laura Caldon took the ball and bent a shot over the head of Preston in the middle of the net to put Eastern Kentucky up 2-0 with less than four minutes to play.
Chattanooga (0-2-1) had a couple of opportunities to score. Freshman forward D.K. Henry (Queens Village, N.Y.) pushed the ball forward and put the shot over the middle of the net. With less than two minutes to go in the game, defender Chelsea Hurst (Flintville, Tenn.) charged the net and was just wide.
Hurst, along with Katharina Rheinheimer (Lindberg, Germany) each had two shots for the Lady Mocs and four more had one apiece. Eastern Kentucky’s Kayla Swearingen led the way with four shots while Heather Bruce, Alex Hartwick, Gabriella Wolf and Imsande each had two shots each.
The Colonels outshot Chattanooga 14-9 and had seven shots on goal to UTC’s three. Preston nabbed five saves for the Lady Mocs while Eastern Kentucky’s Stephanie Lynch had three.
Chattanooga will hit the road for a three-game stretch beginning with a match at Austin Peay Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
