The J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home is now located at 1914 McCallie Ave.
J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home has moved after being at the same location at 747 McCallie Ave. since 1926.
Funeral home officials said, "Under pressure and threat of eminent domain, the property was sold to the University of Tennessee in August of 2008. The funeral home business remained located at the 747 McCallie Ave. site.
"After months of negotiations and heavy lobbying from the university, the funeral home business was moved to make way for expanded parking and student housing."
The J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home is now located at 1914 McCallie Ave., the former home of the Page-Hancock Funeral Home, the Highland Funeral Home, and Comprehensive Community Care and the Housing Authority.
Officials said, "Under the direction of Wilbert McClure, the funeral home will be providing high quality funeral and cremation services at an affordable price.
"Our feeling is that families need our help at their most vulnerable time and we can offer them a full service option at a much lower price.”
