Baylor’s held its eighth annual Science and Engineering Symposium. Projects included an array of more than 70 posters that showcased college-level studies that involve gene expression and behavioral assays of the model organism C. elegans, examining host-symbiont interactions in the environment, embedded systems for robotics, the pursuit of sustainable practices on campus, and applications of machine learning across several science and engineering disciplines. Work done by Middle School science classes and extra-curricular programs were also on display.

The mission of Baylor Research is to train students to think like scientists and the program has four primary research areas:

The Molecular Biology and Development Genetics Lab, led by Dr. Antonio Herrera
The Engineering Research Lab. led by Dr. Louie Elliott
The Environmental Lab, led by Dr. Ben Holt
The Sustainability Research Lab, led by Nastassja Hagan

"Many of our young scientists were excited to share the research they have been investigating. Several have pursued their topic for three years and have produced results that are often only found in universities," said Science Department Chair Jesse Young.
