Partnership, a local nonprofit agency, is training volunteers to assist victims of domestic violence and rape. A free training series for volunteers is being held March 22 – April 2 in Chattanooga and will prepare volunteers to answer calls to the agency’s 24/7 Crisis Hotline and work as victim advocates. The volunteer efforts will support the work of the Partnership’s Crisis Resource Center, which serves victims of domestic violence and rape in the Greater Chattanooga area.
Volunteers who wish to support these programs are required to successfully complete the six-day training series, agree to a background check and provide personal references before they are admitted. Partnership currently has over 30 volunteers directly supporting the Crisis Resource Center efforts to serve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, but more are still needed.
Crisis Resource Center Director Regina McDevitt said, “Without the tireless and committed efforts of our volunteers, assault victims in this community would have fewer services available to them. Volunteers assist staff is so many areas and save the Crisis Resource Center money that is then used to offer even more services. We could not do this so successfully without volunteers."
The training series will take place on the following dates and times:
* Tuesdays, March 22 and 29 5:30–8 p.m.
* Thursdays, March 24 and 31 5:30–8 p.m.
* Saturdays, March 26 and April 2 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Volunteers not able to attend this training, but who are interested in signing up for the next training may contact Volunteer Coordinator Rosemary Miller at 697-3830 or rmiller@partnershipfca.com.
