Dora Pauline Orton Haynes
Dora Pauline Orton Haynes passed away on July 5, 2025, in her home comforted by family. Born February 7, 1923, in Jamestown, Alabama. She spans the decades from a log cabin farmhouse to the city life of Chattanooga.
Pauline graduated from Chattanooga City High School Class of 1941. She spent the war years on the Marine Base surrounding Quantico, Virginia and working as a typist at Provident in Chattanooga. She is a long-time member of Avondale and Ridgeview Baptist Churches teaching Sunday School to Primary Aged Children for over thirty years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Earl J. Haynes, her mother Ida Jones Orton, her father Leland Orton, her brother Dewey Orton, her father-in-law Earl J. Haynes, her mother-in-law Mattie Lacy Haynes, and her daughter-in-law Phyllis Floyd Haynes.
She is survived by her sister Aline Orton Ortwein, her children Michael (Natasha) and Cheryl Haynes; two grandsons M. Brian Haynes (Angela) and Andrew C. Haynes (Amy), and six great grandchildren Hailey, Maddie, Micah, Mia, Eden, and M’Kayla Haynes.
As a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother “GG Polly” will be missed. Through Faith in our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, we will all be together again in Heaven.
A Celebration of Pauline’s Life will be held on Thursday July 10, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Bruce Sloan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Earl in the Lakewood East Memory Gardens.
