Baylor's Christian Carbone ’12 is this year’s Templeton Scholarship recipient. His winning essay honored Katherine “Kitty” Kernan, founder of the Volunteer Reading Program in Utica, N.Y.

The Templeton Scholarship is designed to help students recognize and learn from those in the community who have devoted their lives to noble purpose and to allow applicants the chance to see noble purpose as an important part of their futures.

Representing her family foundation, Lauren Templeton ’94 was on hand to hear Christian deliver his winning essay during assembly.

The scholarship program was established in honor of Harvey and Jewel Templeton, lifelong residents of Winchester, Tn.
