Schools Need Resource Officers On Site

  • Thursday, December 20, 2012

I have read several articles about arming teachers. I believe in the Bill of Rights and I fully support gun ownership. I am not against gun rights in any way, but I think the better approach would be to make sure every school always has a School Resource Officer on site.

This would be much more cost effective and an SRO would have far superior training. In arming teachers, we would have to purchase guns, provide training, and then find insurance that would cover such a scenario.

An SRO is a POST certified police officer and has been through the same training as any other police officer. The position is also highly competitive due to the hours and work environment, which means that more experienced officers usually get the assignment. These officers have the training and experience to better handle deadly situations.
