Community Members And Businesses Collaborate On New Pocket Park For SouthSide

  • Monday, December 3, 2012

The Southside/Cowart Place Neighborhood Association has gathered business and communities members together over the past year to create a pocket park on Chattanooga’s Southside. The park will be used by Battle Academy students and neighborhood residents, and will provide shade, outdoor classroom space and a chess pavilion. Fundraising for the park started at Mainx24 last year and planning has been going on for over a year.

“This is an amazing effort by the community local talent and local businesses to make a beautiful pocket park that will be enjoyed by Battle Academy students, residents, and local community members,” said Heidi Hefferlin, president, Community Foundation and partner at H+K Architects.

Donations of money and time have been raised from the following local businesses:
AREA203 Digital
Hefferlin + Kronenberg
Chattanooga Engineering Group
Chattanooga Wood Academy
The Jaeger Group
Lyndhurst Foundation
Mountaintop Landscaping
Planting
Set in Stone
Take Root

“This means a lot to AREA203 because not only are we located in the SouthSide community, but many of our employees actually live in the SouthSide area of downtown Chattanooga,” said Tavis Salazar, chief creative officer, AREA203 Digital.

The Hamilton County School Board owns the park property. The School Board will maintain the grounds through landscaping, including cutting the grass and doing regular maintenance.
