Varner Charged With Forging Federal Judge's Name

  • Wednesday, February 1, 2012

A local woman is facing federal charges that she forged the signature of a federal judge.

An information filed against Jett Varner said she forged the name of Judge Sandy Mattice "for the purpose of authenticating a document, i.e. 'Notice of Amended Detainer', as an authentic court document of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee."

The case was first assigned to Judge Mattice, but he recused himself.

It is now before Judge Curtis Collier.
