Speaker Beth Harwell Applauds Congressional No Budget, No Pay Act

  • Tuesday, March 13, 2012
Speaker Beth Harwell (R-Nashville) on Tuesday applauded the No Budget, No Pay Act which was recently introduced in Congress by Senator Dean Heller (R-Nevada) and Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tennessee). The bipartisan legislation is also supported by Americans for Prosperity, an organization that promotes fiscal responsibility and smaller government. The bill would halt congressional pay when budget and spending bills are not passed on time.

Speaker Harwell released the following statement regarding the bill:

“A measure like the No Budget, No Pay Act is long overdue.
While Americans are struggling and Washington continues to drive this country further into debt, Congress continues to play politics. In Tennessee, we not only pass a budget, we balance it. That Congress refuses to do so and continues to get paid is appalling. We should demand better from our leadership in Washington. I encourage the entire Tennessee delegation to support this measure. I wholeheartedly agree with this legislation as it is time to restore fiscal responsibility to the federal government.”
