The Cleveland State Community College History Department is sponsoring a lecture on the Battle of Shiloh that took place on April 6-7, 1862. The lecture will be in Room 127 of the Mary T. Barker Humanities Building at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 5.
This lecture, given by Professor Neil Greenwood, is part of an ongoing series of lectures marking the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston initiated this battle on April 6 by attacking U.S. forces under Major General Ulysses Grant at Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee River, in southern Tennessee. Johnston hoped to destroy Grant’s command and drive U.S. forces out of Tennessee northward into Kentucky. What resulted was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, a key event in the struggle over the Volunteer State. This lecture series will continue at CSCC through 2015.
