East Brainerd Spring Fling At Christ Church Is Saturday

  • Tuesday, April 10, 2012
A free-to-the-community spring fling is this Saturday afternoon at Christ United Methodist Church, on East Brainerd Road, across from the Publix.

As one of East Hamilton's fastest-growing churches, Christ Church sponsors dozens of community and mission oriented services year round.

"The Spring Fling allows us to celebrate with the community, serving them, as we are supposed to as followers of Christ, as well as serving with them in ministries like Stop Hunger Now" said Mark Flynn, senior pastor at Christ Church.

The event, from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, will feature free food, music, magicians and street theatre by J-Crew, as well as activities for children such as inflatables, a climbing wall and miniature golf. Music from each of Christ Church's four distinctly different weekly services will be featured throughout the event.

Two special events also open to anyone is the dodge ball tournament in the afternoon and a square dance that follows the festivities, both to be held in the church gymnasium.

"We have had record numbers of players for our dodge ball games this year so people can learn more about our league and the singles will do a great job with the dance" said Garry Mac, a spokesman for the church. "This will be fun!"

One highlight of the Christ Church Spring Fling will be the ability of people to join participate in the Stop Hunger Now meal packaging program. Volunteers will take turns packaging 10,000 dehydrated, high protein, and highly nutritious meals that are used in crisis situations and in school feeding programs for schools and orphanages in developing countries around the world.

The Christ Church Spring Fling is from 3-6 p.m Saturday and is free.
