Boyd-Buchanan Wins District 5-A/AA Soccer Championship

East Hamilton Wins Over Hixson 8-0

  • Thursday, May 10, 2012
The Bucs of Boyd-Buchanan earned a big 1-0 win Thursday night in the district 5-A/AA championship game against Sweetwater.

The Bucs took advantage of one of many corner kicks in the 55th minute when Zach Jenkins burried a shot past Sweetwater's keeper Heath Hill.
The shot came after a corner kick by Ian Pilgrim.

The Bucs beat Sweetwater 4-1 in their regular season match up just last week and Boyd-Buchanan coaches Dustin Walker and Jason Owens knew their team had to come in and play hard.

"We give alot of credit to Sweetwater tonight,"  Walker said.  "We knew we had to through what we did last week out the window. We didn't want them to come out over confident.  We have a young team and really tried to prepare them for a championship match."

Sweetwater keeper Heath Hill stayed busy and had several big saves.

Both teams advance to the region semifinals.

Sweetwater will travel to district 6-A/AA champions East Hamilton next Tuesday and Boyd-Buchanan will host district runner-up Hixson.

Sweetwater's record drops to 7-10-2 and Boyd-Buchanan improves their overall record to 14-3.

In the district 6-A/AA game East Hamilton scored three goals in the first half and five in the second half to beat Hixson 8-0.
