UTC Defeats Elon, 20-9, On The Road

Mocs gain win No. 499

Red Bank High School product Keon Williams rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns and Nick Pollard kicked a pair of field goals to give the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga a 20-9 win at Elon (N.C.) Saturday in a Southern College football game.

While playing under overcast, rainy skies in North Carolina, the Mocs played as though the weather was picture perfect, holding the opposition without a touchdown for the second straight week, move within a win of No. 500 in 106 seasons and have All-American defense end Davis Tull becomes the school's all-time sack leader.

The Mocs, who are in second place in the SoCon, improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Elon is 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the SoCon.

"I am awfully proud of how we are playing defense," said UTC coach Russ Huesman when reminded during the post-game radio show that the Mocs have not allowed a touchdown in the last eight quarters.

"We came to play today and had a lot of energy."

School Record For Davis Tull ... the junior defensive end got one sack today and now has 24.5 for a career passing previous record holder Josh Williams (24) .

Huesman is now 5th in Wins ... Russ Huesman is now the school's fifth winningest coach in Chattanooga history with 28 wins in four years ...

Scrappy Moore (170), Joe Morrison (44), Buddy No (44) and Bill Oliver (29) are ahead of him ...

Huesman was tied with Buddy Green with 27 before today's game ... a win next Saturday ties him with coach Oliver, who was the Mocs head coach, when Huesman was a junior and senior (1980-81)

Going for 500 -- UTC has won 499 college football games starting in 1904 ...
