You probably know that a group of fish is called a school. But did you know that a group of stingrays is called a fever? Frogs? An army. Butterflies? A flutter. And owls? A parliament! Whatever you call your group of loved ones, the holidays are a great time to spend with them at the Tennessee Aquarium.

Guests are invited to meet a waddle of penguins, a shiver of sharks or a smack of jellyfish during Holidays Under the Peaks Nov. 22 to Jan. 6. Aquarium educators and animal experts will deliver daily programs to help connect visitors to some of nature’s most wonderful gifts.

A company of parrots can be found during special scheduled programs in Ranger Rick’s Backyard Safari along with a menagerie of native and exotic creatures guests may encounter throughout the day. Aquarium educators provide insights into the lives of these often colorful creatures.

People will flock to the River Giants exhibit when SCUBA Claus makes his underwater appearances alongside some of the world’s largest freshwater fish species. Look for the jolly old elf weekends at 11 a.m. from Nov. 23 through Dec. 22. (After that he’ll be a pretty busy fella.)

Penguins 3D opens at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater on “Black and White Friday,” Nov. 29. This new giant screen adventure, written and narrated by David Attenborough, follows a young King Penguin on his quest to find a mate and raise a family. Audiences will fall in love with this epic journey of love and survival in the spectacular scenery of South Georgia Island, the snow-capped oasis that’s home to more than one million penguins and piles of enormous elephant seals.

The Polar Express 3D, another family tradition, also returns to IMAX on Nov. 29 with special showings through Dec. 24. This magical journey to the North Pole has audiences grasping at snowflakes as a young boy discovers how the wonders of life never fade for those who believe.
