l’m writing to you today to voice my strong support for Jerry Mitchell for City Council, District 2. I have known Jerry for several years and I am confident he will represent us well.
My family has lived on Carter Drive for 49 years. As "old-timers" in this neighborhood, Sue and I have always held a keen interest in local politics, especially in District 2. So I was especially glad to discover Jerry Mitchell is running for the City Council seat in the upcoming election on March 5 (early voting starts on Feb 13).
I first met Jerry years ago when he served as the head of Chattanooga Parks & Recreation. He showed effective leadership in this role and ended up serving under both Mayors Ion Kinsey and Bob Corker. But Jerry's experience isn't limited to public service - he spent years in the business world giving him an important balance of both public and private sector expertise.
Not only does Jerry have the experience for this position, such as common sense, responsible budgeting and strong leadership, he also has the personality for this position. Jerry has great charisma, loves his hometown, is easy to talk to and he is a good listener.
From knowing him personally and hearing his vision for the future, I can tell you Jerry is prepared to be our next council member and he will do an excellent job.

It is my privilege and honor to recommend Jerry Mitchell for District 2. Jerry has demonstrated his commitment to public service and has established his business credentials.
I have the distinct honor of having known Jerry since 1961 when we boarded a bus for our first day of first grade. For the next 12 years Jerry Mitchell was my closest friend as we attended grammar school, junior high school and then high school. Then it was off to the University of Tennessee for the both of us.
He worked to help put his way through Notre Dame High School and he worked his way through UT. As best friends, the fact I led a rather privileged life never allowed any jealousy on Jerry's part. He was determined to not only make his own way but to give back to the community. He has done this.
Jerry never shakes hands with his friends. Rather he gives them a bear hug and tells them he loves them. That's Jerry. He loves his friends and loves his community. I am proud to recommend my life long friend as District Two councilman.
