Shots Fired When Police Officer Interrupts Robbery In Progress; Armed Suspect Escapes

Chattanooga Police Officer Dewayne Prater observed a robbery in progress on Monday at approximately 11:10 p.m. at the Kankus Express, 4408 Highway 58, and saw that the suspect had a gun pointed at the clerk, demanding money.  

Officer Prater confronted the suspect as he exited the building at which time the suspect pointed the gun at Officer Prater. Officer Prater fired several rounds at the suspect who was able to get away in an automobile and that has not been located. 

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’11” tall, with a medium build.  He was last seen wearing a dark gray sweatshirt over a white T-shirt, black pants, black tennis shoes, and was wearing a Halloween mask.
