Larry Clark is once again leading the Tennessee River Rescue in East Ridge.

He appeared before the East Ridge City Council to request the usual help from city public works and public safety for the Oct. 5 event.

Mr. Clark said focuses this year will be near the new boat ramp at Camp Jordan Park, along Spring Creek behind the city garage, and near the end of Harvard Street.

He said 31 people showed up to help clean up city streams last year, though it rained hard all day. He said that group accomplished as much as the 91 people from the previous year. The volunteers last year included a contingent from LaFayette, Ga.

Students and Boy Scouts are among the regular helpers, he said.

Mr. Clark said this is the 25th year for the Tennessee River Rescue.

He said 60 shopping carts have been pulled from Spring Creek during the duration of the program. "We are down to parts of shopping carts now," he said.

All of the shopping carts have been recycled.
