Lady Flames Earn Split With West Florida

 Rylie Goodridge delivered a two-out two RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to give Lee University 6-5 win in game two of the double header against the University of West Florida on Saturday. The Lady Flames rebounded after dropping game one 7-2. With the win, the Lady Flames improved to 20-24 overall and 14-15 in GSC play.
 
In game one, the Argos took the lead in the bottom of the first as Erin Moon hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Gianna Guerriero. The Lady Flames took their only lead of the contest in the top of the third inning.
After Hailey Simco and Javaria Smith each had a single, Rylie Goodridge drove in Simco to tie the game at 1-1. Smith scored couple of batter later when Annalyn Ormsby reached safely on an error by UWF.
 
The lead didn’t last long as Chelsea Dumas tripled to lead the bottom of the third off. Guerriero then doubled to score Dumas, and then scored on an error from Shelby Cole. Gurerriero had another RBI in the fourth inning to make it a 4-2 game. The last three runs for UWF came in the fifth when Jessica Ford had a bases clearing double to make it a 7-2 game.
 
Lee managed six hits to UWF’s nine in the game. Smith had two of the six hits and Goodridge had the only RBI. Olivia Tyson threw 105 pitches and gave up seven runs while striking out one.
 
The Lady Flames scored first in the second game. Alexa Scalzo led the game off with a single. She then stole second base. She got to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a passed ball to give Lee the 1-0 lead.
 
The Lady Flames scored twice in the second. Laney Harris led the inning off with a walk. She got to third base on back-to-back wild pitches. Alyson Jarvi then drove her in to make it 2-0. After a walk and an error, Scalzo drove Jarvi in to make it 3-0.
 
UWF scored their first run in the fourth inning. After Bella Holliday drove in Erin Moon. The fifth inning had UWF score a run on a wild pitch as Guerriero took advantage of a high Natalie Pruitt pitch.
 
The Argos took the lead in the fifth. Dumas scored on a wild pitch, and then Moon drove in Guerriero to tie the game at 3-3. Vasquez gave UWF the lead for the first time with a two-run homerun making it 5-3.
 
The Lady Flames made a last gasp effort and took the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Jarvi got on with a single to start the inning. Then, Orsmby reached on a fielders choice. Kyra Vieux came in to pinch hit and got a single. Scalzo then had a sacrifice fly to cut it to a one run contest. After Simco was hit by a pitch, Smith reached on a fielder’s choice while Orsmby was out at home. Then with two outs, Goodridge delivered a two RBI single to give Lee the lead. Pruitt then closed the game with three straight outs to give Lee the 6-5 win.
 
UWF outhit Lee 9-8, but two Argo errors helped score an unearned run. Pruitt wentall seven innings giving up nine hits and getting a strikeout. Five different Lady Flames had hits in the win. Scalzo and Goodridge each had two RBI as well.
 
The Lady Flames will take on UWF in the rubber match in the final game of the regular season tomorrow at 2 PM.
