Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 and I-75 resurfacing project:  I-24 resurfacing from west of Spring Creek Rd. (MM 185) to I-75 (MM 185.7); I-75 resurfacing from the Georgia State Line (MM 0.00) to south of Chickamauga Creek (MM 1.91):  Work on this project is complete pending addressing of punchlist items.  Any work requiring lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9 p.m-6 a.m.  THP will assist with traffic control.  

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is September. 

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014.   

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the temporary paving on the SB side of the project and the contractor is working on road and drainage on the NB side of the project.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September.  

SR-319 (Hixson Pike) resurfacing (microsurfacing) from south of Warwickshire Drive (LM 12.51) to U.S. 27 (SR-29) (LM 21.27):  This project takes place near the Lakesite and Soddy-Daisy areas.  Pavement marking operations will take place during this report period.  This work will require lane closures.  Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September. 

U.S. 27 (Rossville Blvd.) resurfacing from Foust Street (LM 5.62) to the Georgia State Line (LM 7.93):  Work on this project is slated to begin soon.  In preparation for resurfacing, the city of Chattanooga is currently adjusting manhole covers along the route. When work begins on the project, lane closures for asphalt paving will only be allowed on Sunday through Thursday nights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m.  Concrete replacement work will only be allowed on weekends from 9 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. THP will be present to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November.  

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014.  

I-75 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project has begun.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs soil boring for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May 2014.
