A Chattanooga firm is getting the contract for overseeing the construction work for the new SUV line at the Volkswagen plant.

Officials said the EMJ Corporation has been selected for the project that will give a new surge of activity and employment at the plant at the Enterprise South Industrial Park.

The work includes additions to the body shop and tech center and adding an assembly finish area.

James Williams will have oversight of all EMJ personnel on the job, while Adam Ankers will provide constructive administrative services.

The project is set to start ramping up next month.

Design services for the project will be by SSOE Systems, which has design projects around the world. Its contract is for $1,061,762.

The city and county are to pay the design and construction oversight costs on a 50/50 split.

EMJ handled the initial construction oversight at the VW plant for the Passat line under a contract for $2,250,000 in 2008.

In 2009, EMJ was involved in the work on the Volkswagen Training Academy.
