Covenant Splits In Home USA Volleyball Matches

 The Covenant volleyball team split its USA South quad-match on Saturday inside Barnes Physical Education Center. The Lady Scots were defeated by USA South North Division leader Meredith in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 27-25) in the day's first match before knocking off Methodist 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24) in the final match.

Covenant stands at 21-9 overall and 10-4 in the USA South.

Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 12 assists and 12 digs in the match against Meredith, while Ginny Moore led the team with 10 kills. Schuyler Moore tallied seven kills, 14 assists and seven digs in the loss. Chloe Carlson recorded 16 digs and Christina Argaez added 11.

Meredith (21-7, 13-3 USA South) controlled each of the first two sets as they never trailed before the third set.

Karlie Long propelled the Avenging Angels attack with 23 kills and 14 digs. Hannah Blaylock had a match-high 32 assists and Keegan Lynch totaled 17 digs.

Covenant took its first lead of the match early in the third set after a kill from Cora Schroeder. Meredith quickly regained the lead and although the Lady Scots would tie the set on several occasions, Meredith was able to secure the sweep.

In the day's second match, Covenant was able to snap its brief two-match losing streak with a four set victory. Schuyler Moore recorded her fifth triple-double of the year with 14 kills, 13 assists and 10 digs to lead the Lady Scots.

Schroeder tallied 13 kills, four digs and two block assists. Ginny Moore chipped in seven kills and 11 digs andHannah Rogers added four kills and an assisted block. Carlson had a match-high 23 digs.

Covenant dominated the opening set as they scored eight of the first nine points, capped by a Schroeder kill, and would never trail. The role was reversed in the second set as Methodist would claim the lead early on and never look back to tie the match at 1-1.

The third set saw two ties, but Covenant would not trail in the set as the Lady Scots took a 2-1 match lead. The Lady Scots totaled 11 kills in the set. Methodist would take Covenant to extra points in the fourth set, but consecutive kills from Ginny Moore and Schuyler Moore ended the match.

Ryann Appleby and Cassidy Hayes each had 13 kills for Methodist (13-16, 8-8 USA South) while Maggie Harris had 43 assists.

Covenant will play out of conference on Tuesday with a trip to Sewanee. Match time is set for 8 p.m. EDT.
