Keep A Good Thing Going On Signal Mountain

  • Thursday, October 30, 2014

For the past eight years Signal Mountain has been fortunate enough to have Annette Allen and Susan Robertson as members of the town council.  We pay them nothing.  Yet they have poured thousands of hours of their time, energy, and talent into making the town a special place.   Annette and Susan take the time to learn, listen, and understand issues.  They approach their responsibilities with humility and respect for others.

Signal Mountain has been rated as one of the best places to raise a family, one of the safest communities, and one of the most efficient governments.   Our town and its government have won numerous awards.  These things don’t happen by accident.  While Annette and Susan aren’t responsible for all of the town’s successes, they have been guiding hands for the past few years that have helped keep our community special.

Our town runs a surplus and our “rainy day” fund now stands at over $5 million.  The loan for our high school is being paid off at an accelerated pace - 10 years ahead of schedule – saving all of us over a million dollars in interest.   Moody’s has given us one of the highest bond ratings available, reducing the interest rate we pay on existing and future loans.   Smart development is encouraged by the subdivision regulations that incentivize the preservation of green space.   And the new conservation easement will preserve the special places on the mountain, like Rainbow Lake, for our following generations.

If the recent conservation easement debate is any indication, some of the other candidates will not give the job with the same time and effort as Annette and Susan.  Instead of being involved in the issue, they raised concerns at the last minute that were unfounded and uninformed.

In this case, change simply for change’s sake is a bad idea.   Please vote and re-elect Annette Allen and Susan Robertson.
