Chattanooga State has supported its students during the holiday season for more than 15 years. Staff members from the Student Support Center identify students with a documented need and anonymously submit their names to the Student Government Association (SGA) to help bring holiday cheer to students and their families in need.

More than 20 families with a total of 41 children will enjoy a happy morning on Christmas day this year.

Aaron Lindorfer, SGA communications officer, shared that the money collected from table rentals by clubs and organizations during the Oktoberfest celebration goes toward the purchase of gifts at Christmas. Faculty, staff and members of student clubs and organizations donate items for family members they “adopt” through this holiday program. Some people prefer not to purchase items, but give money instead. These donations along with money from Oktoberfest totaled $150 per child, or $6,150. “This program is an opportunity for us not only to help those in need, but also build community,” said Mr. Lindorfer.

According to Danielle Hogston, SGA treasurer, “Just seeing the families faces light up and seeing how thankful they were made all the hard work worthwhile. I don't think I could have had a better group of people helping me.”
