Dallas Bay firefighters worked quickly to extinguish a house fire and save the Christmas tree and presents.

At 5:30 a.m., the Rankin family awoke to their smoke alarm alerting them throughout the house. The homeowner got up and found smoke and fire in the living room. They immediately evacuated the house and called 911.

The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to 501 Roberts Mill Road and reported heavy smoke and fire showing at the front of the house. Firefighters quickly entered the home and extinguished the fire in the living room. Dallas Bay VFD Chief Markus Fritts reported the cause of the fire was an electrical short in the living room. Damages were listed at $15,000.

No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to firefighters.

The Rankin family was insured and will be staying with family.
