Ernest W. Eaves, 73, Fort Oglethorpe died on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He graduated Ooltewah High School in 1959. Ernest was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Ranger. He had been employed by Ernest Holmes Company, Combustion Engineering, and was retired from the Catoosa County School System. He was an active volunteer at Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Tabernacle and had served as a Sunday School teacher in several churches for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Rhinehart Eaves and their unborn child; by his parents, Bill Eaves and Ruth Eaves Smith; brother, Bob Eaves; half brothers and sister, Ralph, Jesse, Clarence, Fred, and Geneva Eaves; and grandson, Grant Ernest Placke.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frieda Eaves; daughter, Kim (Rod) Placke, of St. Libory, NE; son, Rev. Chris (Rhonda) Eaves, of Rossville; grandchildren, Dalton Placke and Thomas Cardwell, of St. Libory, NE and Sam and Syndi Eaves, of Rossville; brother, John (Dean) Eaves, of Decatur, TN; sister, Wanda Sue McHan, of Tulsa, OK; several nieces and nephews; and golfing buddies Larry Watkins and Bill Voshell.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Riggs officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Sam Eaves, Thomas Cardwell, Dalton Placke, Jake Eaves, Michael Lea, Jeff Davison, and Mike Record.
