Michael Prendergast
Michael J. Prendergast, 77, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Erlanger Hospital.
He was born in Lockport, N.Y. on Nov. 24, 1936, a son of the late Thomas C. and Mary Brophy Prendergast.
After graduating from DeSales High School in 1955, Mr. Prendergast graduated from Holy Cross College in Boston.
He was active in the Lockport community for many years, having held memberships at St. Johns Catholic Church and the Royal Hybernans. He also coached little league baseball there.
In 1989 he retired from General Motors (Harrison Division) in Lockport, N.Y. and lived 15 years in Vero Beach, Fl., before moving to Chattanooga to be near family.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, John Prendergast, Mary Alice Traux, Martin Prendergast and Thomas Prendergast.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years Veronica Burns Prendergast; children, Michael (Kathleen) Prendergast of Richmond, Va., Dennis Prendergast of Milton, Fl., Debra Prendergast of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Ryan Mink of Chattanooga, Matthew Conley of Richmond, Va., Christopher Conley of Norwich, Ct.; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Charles Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church or Notre Dame High School, Chattanooga.
