A Slap In The Face To Local Police Applicants - And Response

  • Thursday, April 24, 2014

Little Andy has once again shown what he thinks about the Chattanooga Police Department by ignoring all the applicants from within the department. There were several great candidates within the police department that had as much experience as the chosen one from 1,000 miles away.

This is a slap in the face for any officer who is at the Chattanooga Police Department who has aspirations of being chief of police only to find our mayor spending almost $40,000 in a search for choosing someone that knows nothing about our area.

Future Chief Fletcher will make more than any chief in the city's history and will be the highest paid in the state. Maybe the next mayoral race we will choose a mayor from 1,000 miles away.

Maybe it’s my imagination but violent crime in Chattanooga seems to be on the rise.  Maybe our police protection programs aren’t working and hiring an organic candidate would just be more of the status quo.

There are parts of Chattanooga where I don’t feel safe anymore and as a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, it wasn’t always like that.  Chattanooga is right to spend the extra money on a candidate with a proven track record.

Officer Mincy, I appreciate your service and your loyalty to your fellow officers, but I’m looking forward to the new ideas and the new leadership from Police Chief Fred Fletcher.  The mayor has made our choice for us and we need to get behind him and support our new chief.
