Man Arrested On Interstate For Public Intoxication Was Running To Knoxville To See His Mother

A Chattanooga man was arrested and charged with public intoxication after police found him walking shirtless on the interstate and carrying a 10-ounce can of beer around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

When police asked Steven Purkerson, 33, what he was doing, he said he was running to Knoxville to see his mother.

Police said Purkerson was staggering while walking eastbound right by the westbound lane of traffic.

Bond was set at $750.
