East Ridge Wins District 6-A/AA Soccer Championship

  • Thursday, May 8, 2014

The East Ridge boys soccer team beat Hixson 3-0 Tuesday night in the District 6A/AA championship to claim the first ever district title.

Senior Kazic Rasim opened the scoring ten minutes into the game, scoring on a penalty kick after a Hixson hand ball in the box.

Fellow senior Tad Whitaker would score the final two goal with assists from Marco Briseno in the first half and Rasim in the second half.

Head coach Jeremy McIntyre said the Pioneers finished runner-up four out of the last five years and was glad his team played well against a strong Hixson team.

"I thought we played a real solid game," McIntyre said. " Our defense is our rock and we count on them.  They stepped up.  I think we knew we could score so I told them I really wanted a shutout."

Sophomore DeArius Moore earned the shutout in the goal for East Ridge.

Both team advance to region play.  East Ridge will host Boyd-Buchanan at Camp Jordan next Tuesday and Hixson will play at CSAS.  Those games are elimination games.

"We lost 2-0 to Boyd-Buchanan this year," McIntyre said. "They are solid.  We are going to have to work hard."
