Marie Meyer Murphy, 91, of Apison, died on Monday, July 14,2014.

She was born Jan. 2, 1923 to the late Cecil and Winnie Fisher Meyer and was a longtime resident of Apison. Marie was a member of Apison United Methodist Church for more than 70 years.

After graduating from Ooltewah High School in 1940 and attending Kirkman Technical School, Marie went to work for Southern Railroad. She also worked for Baltimore and Ohio Railway and CSX Railway. She retired after more than 40 years of service, Retirement allowed Marie to be involved with her church family. Her interest in geneology led to involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne and her sister, Jean Meyer Allen.

She is survived by her four daughters, Gayle (Jody) Whisenant, Sharon (Hartly) Varnell, Laura (Stuart) Ellis, and Lisa (Michael) Cline. Marie's greatest joy was her family, and she and Wayne were blessed with 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

The Lantern at Morning Pointe, in Collegedale, was Marie's home for the last two years of her life. Her caregivers gave her love, dignity, and outstanding care as she faced life with Alzheimer's disease.

Funeral services will be at Apison United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 22, at 1 p.m. with Reverend Debbie Stokes officiating.

Interment will be in Plowman Cemetery in Apison.

Visitation will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Apison United Methodist Church, 4404 Bill Jones Road, Apison, Tn., 37302.
