Merl Rogers, 85, of Summerville, Georgia, died on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rogers was born January 2, 1929, in Fulton, Ms., the son of the late Eston Rogers and Myrtle Cleo Swindile Rogers. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a tree cutter with N. G. Gilbert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Estelle Jones Rogers; and his second wife, Eva Florella Barnes Rogers; and 16 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Donald and Pat Rogers, and David Rogers; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Beau Burdick, Jan and Clint Fricks; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Bea Ellis.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Levi Burdick, Bo Burdick, Jake Burdick, Adam Burdick, Justin Rogers, and Aaron Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff and Employees of the Suites at Oakview.

Mr. Rogers will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
