WTCI Announces New Members Of Board Of Directors

WTCI announced five new members to the Board of Directors.  Paul Grove, President and CEO, says “A PBS station serves its community best when its leadership celebrates the impact of storytelling, education and innovation.  We welcome some of Chattanooga’s greatest civic, education and philanthropic leaders to our Board and we look forward to an exciting year engaging our community.”

Deborah Elwell Arfken is a tenured professor in the department of Political Science, Public Administration and Nonprofit Management at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
 Dr. Arfken is responsible for university planning, implementing the University’s strategic plan and co-chairing the campus master plan.  Recently retiring Dr. Arfken will teach online as professor emerita.

As dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Arfken grew the enrollment and implemented five new master’s and doctoral programs and 13 graduate certificate programs. She obtained $1.7 million in federal funds for graduate assistantships and has served on a number of nonprofit boards, currently chairing the board of Girls Inc. of Chattanooga.  

Hodgen Mainda is the director of Business Development and Provider Relations for MDP Management and One to One Personal Physician Network. Mr. Mainda is active in the community and serves on several boards including; Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association, Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce and Memorial Hospital Foundation. Mr. Mainda is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga (class of 2010) and is a recent co-recipient of YPAC’s 2014 Young Professional of the Year Award.

Erskine Oglesby is the Associate Director of Corporate Engagement for the United Way of Greater Chattanooga.  Previously Mr. Oglesby was Business Services Representative for the Southeast Tennessee Development District’s Tennessee Career Center, marketing Career Center services to area companies and businesses and administering training grants to companies in 9 counties. 

Mr. Oglesby is President of the 100 Black Men of Chattanooga, Inc. and Basileus of the Kappa Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He serves as a trustee on the City of Chattanooga’s Pension Board and on the boards of the Creative Discovery Museum, Dodson Avenue/Southside Community Health Center and the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and is a member of the Downtown Kiwanis and the Tennessee State University Alumni Association.

Frank Shriner is a banking executive with a experience in all aspects of banking and finance with roles in leadership, management, marketing and sales. Mr. Shriner oversaw the full service retail commercial bank for the Southeast market that included private banking, commercial and small business banking, commercial real estate, trust and investment banking  with over 28 branch locations, 325 employees in a three county market area with over $2 billion in deposits and $1.5 billion in loans. 

Mr. Shriner has served his community in board leadership roles at the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Greater Chattanooga, Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga, Hunter Museum of American Art, Tennessee Aquarium, the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Association, Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation, the Chattanooga Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise, the University of Chattanooga Foundation, the MCR Foundation, the Enterprise Center and the Rotary Club of Chattanooga.

Scott Wilson was appointed to serve as Baylor’s ninth headmaster in 2009. In addition to his community involvement with various civic groups, including a performance with the local ‘Dancing with the Stars’ gala event, he is on the board of Erlanger Hospital Foundation, The Chattanooga History Center, and the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools.  As headmaster he oversees a 690-acre campus and a student body consisting of 1,030 total students in grades 6-12, including boarding students from 24 countries, and a teaching faculty of 118 men and women.  He is currently guiding the school in a planning process that includes a new campus master plan.
