UTC's Hudson Named Special Teams Player Of The Week

  • Monday, September 15, 2014

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Tommy Hudson is the Southern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced today.  Hudson scored twice in the Mocs 42-6 win at Austin Peay on Saturday

Hudson returned three punts for 65 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown in the third quarter.  That added to his 33-yard receiving score in the first quarter to lead Chattanooga (1-2).  It was the first punt return for a TD by a Moc since Jordan Hazard ran one back 88 yards against Furman in 2007.

The senior wideout from Moultrie, Ga., finished with a career-high 102 yards receiving and a career-best 173 all-purpose yards in the win.  He is also the first Moc returner to win the SoCon honor since Brian Sutherland ran back a kickoff against No. 1 Auburn on Nov. 8, 2010.

Overall the Mocs stayed at No. 14 in the FCS rankings this week.  UTC dropped from 14 to 15 in the Sports Network Top 25, but moved up to 14 from 17 in the Coaches Poll.

The Mocs are off this week and return home to host Samford on Saturday, Sept. 27.  Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Finley Stadium.  Tickets are available on GoMocs.com or by calling the UTC Ticket Office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627).
