  • Tuesday, September 23, 2014
Battling a pesky West Georgia club the Lee volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held on for a five-set victory (25-22, 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 15-9) on Tuesday evening in Walker Arena.

It was the second time the Lady Flames have been pushed to the max in conference play on the young season. Last Tuesday coach Andrea Hudson's club won a five-set battle with North Alabama.

The two clubs exchanged punches through much of the early portion of the final set before Lee went on a 9-3 run to close out the match.

A pair of seniors guided the attack for the Lady Flames.
Latrice Johnson registered a double-double performance with 15 kills and 10 digs while Patty Orozco added 15 slams of her own. Erin Hill continued her string of double-doubles with 11 kills and 15 assists.

West Georgia featured a balance offensive attack as Tiesha Alston, Tiffany Ancrum and Nikki McDaniel all finished with nine slams. Amanda Miller set things up with 17 assists while Kayla Hartman tallied a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs.

The evenly contest match featured 24 ties and nine lead changes. With the victory Lee moves to 3-4 overall and draws even at 3-3 in the GSC. The loss drops West Georgia to 2-8 on the year and 0-6 in conference play.

Up next for the Lady Flames is the annual Lee Invitational on the sport court in Walker Arena. Lee will play four matches in two days beginning on Friday with Kentucky Wesleyan at 2:30.
