Susan Pitts Burt, 67, died in Chattanooga while under the care of Hospice and her daughter on September 18, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg City Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born Nov. 3, 1946, “Miss” Susan- as most Headstart children referred to her as- was a native of Moore County and was the daughter of the late William R. Pitts and Nancy Motlow Pitts of Lynchburg, Tn.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Travis Wayne Burt, and son Tyree Travis Burt.
She was the precious and outstanding lead teacher of Moore County Headstart program for 31 years and the inspirational County Coordinator for the JTPA Summer Youth Program for eight years. She was a member of Wesley Heights Methodist Church and often went with her husband Travis, to minister to, pray with and simply love, just as they were, local inmates in county jails.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Bethe Motlow, granddaughter, Chloe Acacia Deakin and brother, Tommy Pitts and his wife Linda Pitts, four nephews, one niece and 12 great-nieces and nephews. Other friends and family who were close and of great influence in her life include Robbie Travis, Martha and Steve Hill, Jim Woodard, Cheryl Bordeax, Gail and Jack Dayton, Brenda Snider, Mark Rieth, Yvonne Biggs, Robin Sells, and Pauline Korman.
