CSO Celebrates William Shakespeare's 450th Birthday In Concert

  • Friday, September 26, 2014

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera is presenting a Shakespearean-themed concert to celebrate the bard’s 450th anniversary of his birth on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre. CSO Music Director Kayoko Dan selected three works to perform in celebration – Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream suite and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, a modern day version of Romeo and Juliet.

In keeping with the theme of these theatrically inspired musical works, actors from Shakespeare Chattanooga will be performing scene selections for both the Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn pieces.

“We are thrilled to appear with such a prestigious arts organization,” said Shakespeare Chattanooga Producing Director Janis Hashe.

Tickets are available by calling the CSO box office at 267-8583, visiting the box office Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at 701 Broad St., or online at www.chattanoogasymphony.org. Students can attend for $15 with a valid student I.D. and children 17 and under can attend free with a paid adult. All ticket buyers are invited to the post-concert casual meet and greet called Postlude with Music Director Kayoko Dan and musicians in the Tivoli Theatre lobby immediately following the concert.
