Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided tour focusing on a crucial Civil War story associated with Moccasin Bend on Saturday, Oct. 11. The mile and a half, two-hour walking tour will begin at 1:30 pm at the Brown’s Ferry Federal Road Trailhead off Pineville Road on Moccasin Bend. To find the trailhead, follow the “Special Event” signs beginning on Manufactures Road.
"It was a gamble to say the least, sneaking up on Confederates in order to open a vital supply line to a starving Union army in Chattanooga.
In the early morning hours of Oct. 27, 1863, over a thousand blue-clad soldiers silently floated down the Tennessee River toward Brown’s Ferry, an important river crossing guarded by Confederates. Suddenly, masked by the darkness and fog, Union soldiers made landfall. We encourage you to join us on this special program to find out what happened next," Park officials said.
Comfortable, supportive, wet-weather footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather, and water are recommended for this program.
