O’Brien, Chadwell Earn UTC's Dayle May Award

Success in the classroom, as well as competition, has been a long-standing trait of student-athletes at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  Each year, Dayle May Jewelers celebrates the Mocs academic accomplishments with the presentation of the Dayle May Award.

This honor is given to the male and female student-athlete at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with the highest cumulative grade-point-average.  This year’s recipients are Patrick O'Brien of the track & field/cross country team, and Kaylene Chadwell from the women’s tennis squad.  Both were honored at the men’s basketball game against VMI on Jan.
22.

O’Brien is a four-year letter winner for the Mocs, who has earned numerous Academic All-Southern Conference honors in his career.  The Chattanooga native has a perfect 4.0 cumulative g.p.a. as a Biochemistry major.

Chadwell is a first team All-SoCon doubles player and also has multiple Academic All-SoCon honors.  The Franklin, Tenn., native is majoring in Communications and has a 3.88 overall g.p.a.

These two individuals helped UTC post an overall 3.0 g.p.a. in each of the last two semesters.  They were also among the school-record 41 student-athletes with a 4.0 semester mark in the fall.  They both received an engraved watch from Dayle May Jewelers as the reward for their work in the classroom.
