On Friday Mayor Andy Berke and his staff kicked off day five of their week of service by visiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga. The mayor’s office provided a Jamaican lunch from Mrs. B’s Reggae Café for RMHC families. The mayor’s week of service started on Martin Luther King Day and continued throughout the week to encourage Chattanooga residents to serve in their community. The purpose of it was to prove that whether one is doing a favor for a neighbor or serving food to families like those at the Ronald McDonald House, it helps.

When Mayor Berke and his staff arrived at the Ronald McDonald House, they spent time bonding with Kyra, a young nine-year-old cancer patient who’s been staying at the House with her family.

The day the mayor and his staff came to serve lunch, she completed her last radiation treatment and was thrilled to meet Mayor Berke. After visiting with Kyra, the mayor’s office was more than eager to tour the house and learn about other ways they can serve RMHC of Greater Chattanooga again in the future.

Chef Neville Forsyth from Mrs. B’s and his team delivered lunch to the House courtesy of Mayor Andy Berke. Lunch consisted of delicious chicken pasta with vegetables, seasoned cabbage, mild pork barbeque, fruit cobbler, and rolls. If RMHC of Greater Chattanooga didn’t exist, many of the RMHC residents wouldn’t be able to find restoration during their traumatic crisis. “If there weren’t meals prepared at the Ronald McDonald House, I just wouldn’t eat,” said a former RMHC resident. Moms and dads usually put their own well-being on hold when their child’s life is in danger. It is RMHC of Greater Chattanooga’s mission to make sure the parents are taken care of by providing a “home away from home” for them.
