East Hamilton’s offense scored in each quarter, the defense held Cumberland County scoreless for 36-plus minutes Friday night and the Hurricanes waltzed away with a 24-7 Region 3-4A high school football victory over visiting Jets.

The Hurricanes got the scoring started with Jake McClure’s 32-yard field goal late in the first period.

East Hamilton (5-3, 3-1) thought it had stretch the lead about five minutes later, but 23-yard pass to Hunter Gregg from Nick Woods appeared to be a touchdown, but a pass interference negated the play.

With 36 seconds left in the first half, running back Frankie Campo, who ran just two times for 5 yards, scored from the 2.

McClure’s extra point gave the Hurricanes a 10-0 lead.

Jeffrey Coleman snagged a pass from Woods in the third period and turned it into a 51-yard touchdown – it was his only reception – with 3:08 on the clock.

The Jets (4-3, 2-1) broke through for a defensive score when McClure’s punt was blocked and Jake Kerly recovered the ball in the end zone.

The Hurricanes’ final touchdown came on a 7-yard run by David Whiteside with 7:22 remaining in the game.

Whiteside was the Hurricanes’ leading rusher with 89 yards on 22 carries.

Woods completed 11-of-23 passes for 188 yards and the two touchdowns.
