  • Friday, October 2, 2015
A Star Party at Cloudland Canyon is scheduled for Nov. 7.

The programs below are free to all.

Part 1 .
. . Solar Observations near the Interpretive Center at
4:30 p.m. Special telescopes will be set up to observe the sun. People will be able to see sunspots and possibly a solar prominence or solar flare.

Part 2 . . . Night time observations at the Tennis Courts, from 7-10 p.m. As the sky darkens, members of the Barnard Astronomical Society will be on hand to point out the constellations of fall and show people how to identify them. In addition, there will be a number of telescopes set up for viewing the wonders of the night sky. We will be near a New Moon which means that the sky will be dark and conditions will be near perfect for observations of DSO's (deep sky objects). Come see objects trillions of miles from earth through the telescopes.

Bring a lawn chair for your comfort. Flashlights with red cellophane over the lenses, to help preserve night vision.

This program is conducted by the Barnard Astronomical Society and sponsored by the staff and Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park. These programs are free to all. Parking fee of $5 per car applies as always. One parking fee allows access to the park all day and includes use of park facilities.
